Gradient & Color Banding Test

Inspect 256-level smooth grayscale and RGB ramps to discover color banding, posterization artifacts, 6-bit FRC dithering noise, or low bit-depth truncation.

1. 256-Level Continuous Grayscale Ramp

0 (Pure Black) โž” 255 (Pure White)

On an 8-bit or 10-bit panel, this ramp must transition like smooth liquid without visible vertical stripes or abrupt tonal steps. If vertical bands appear, your monitor or GPU is exhibiting color banding.

2. High-Sensitivity Dark Shadow Ramp (0% - 20%)

Near-Black Banding Detector

Near-black gradients are where 90% of color banding occurs in real content (dark movies, games, shadows). Ensure subtle dark shades stay distinct without crushing into solid black or forming sharp stepped contours.

3. Fine Highlight Ramp (80% - 100%)

Highlight Clipping & Roll-off

Checks if near-white shades blow out into a flat white wall or maintain subtle tonal progression up to 255 luminance.

4. Discrete RGB Subpixel Channels:
